Why I paint
My favorites: Degas, Sargent, Bernini, Gericault, Sorolla, George Bellows, Winslow Homer, Egon Schiele, Howard Pyle, Jenny Saville, Richard Mayhew. After 35+ years as a film and TV director, navigating the collaborative process of filmmaking, it's a welcome change working solo on long-simmering visual ideas. Painting what's around me, a sort of visual diary, is a way to share my obsessions, quirks and life.
